Mexico Real Estate – Cozumel to Gain Billion Dollar Wind Farm

July 26, 2011 - PRLog -- The governments of Mexico on all three levels have realized the benefit of investing into infrastructure which encourages Mexico real estate development.  Recently, the government of the island of Cozumel on the Mexican Caribbean announced a billion-dollar project to build a new wind farm to generate electric power.  The project is expected to benefit Cozumel real estate by providing a clean and affordable power source.

The Mayor of Cozumel, Aurelio Joaquin Gonzalez said that the island is ready to receive investment announced by the State Governor, Roberto Borge , in wind energy, with the implementation of the project led by Cannon Power Group, which is estimated at an amount of one billion dollars (US).

The mayor said that the Island of Cozumel is ready, both in the administrative side, and in the geographical area to maintain this large-scale energy project that will provide benefits to state and municipal governments.  The savings in energy costs are forecasted to be at least 15 percent, with the possibility of increasing this to 20 percentage points, as the project progresses.

He noted that this project includes other benefits, besides the reduction in energy costs by the City and State.   The implementation an electricity-generating wind farm will directly benefit 300 families through creating many jobs.

He explained that the island of Cozumel was facing the north for the installation of an electricity generating station, but according to studies, the south would be the most viable, being an area that has winds which reach velocity of 6.2 meters per second.

The municipal government has been in communication with the directors of Cannon Group for a little over a month. The group said the project could increase the placement of windmills up to 50 mills, with the intention of putting the first as soon as possible.

Another important aspect is the respecting the environment.  This factor is important both in the construction of the mills, and in the choice of this energy source.
