They especially don’t believe our next generation of children will be able to compete with theirs. And the statistics support their beliefs. Our educational system is weak, and instead of developing a better way to improve it, we’re getting picked apart by corporate and individual greed. We need true Americans fighting for what is ours; that is why we’ve endorsed this initiative.” The Conference will kick off at 9:00 am on Thursday, July 28th, with keynote speaker Jonathan Kozol, followed by 12 morning workshops from 10:30am-12:30pm. Which features workshops hosted by Taylor Mali, Deborah Meier, S.E. Anderson, Dr. Angela Valenzuela, Parents Across America, and Citizens for Effective Schools. The after-noon session starts at 1:45pm to 3:45pm with 13 workshops, which will be hosted by Laurie Murphy, Dr. Mike Klonsky, Curtis Acosta, Karen Lewis, President of the Chicago Teachers Union, the Grassroots Education Movement and FundEducationNow.org. The closing ceremony will be held by Scott Nine of the Institute for Democratic Education in America. July 29th conference starts with former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Education, Dr. Diane Ravitch, as the keynote speaker at 9:00 am. The morning session begins at 10:45am-12:45pm; The Save Our Schools March and National Call to Action movement is also endorsed by Dr. Pedro Noguera, Dr. Cornel West, Dr. Yong Zhao, Richard Dreyfuss, Matt Damon, the American Federation of Teachers, and the National Education Association. The two-day conference is sold out, but parents, students, teachers, union members, and community stakeholders are all invited to participate in the Rally and March on Saturday, July 30th.
