July 25, 2011 - PRLog -- Brothers Bruce and Gregg Johnson, life-long Reading residents and owners of Lee Kimball of Winchester, MA, have announced the 11th annual David K. Johnson (DKJ) Foundation golf tournament.  The tournament will return to the Black Swan Country Club in Georgetown, MA and be held on Monday, August 22, 2011.

The foundation was created in honor and memory of their parents, David and Susan Johnson, to promote awareness and support for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other progressive dementia diseases as well as life altering disabilities. The DKJ Foundation recognizes and financially supports alternative non-institutional care and family-needed support.   At the age of 59 David Johnson was diagnosed with progressive dementia, he moved into Sanborn Place. David’s need for care pioneered Sanborn’s supportive living program that allows one to age in a place they call home.

Proceeds will support the Massachusetts Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, the David & Susan Memorial Scholarship Fund awarded to a Reading Memorial High School student pursuing a career in health care or medicine, and Reading’s Not for Profit Sanborn- Place, Home Care & Day Services.  Any interested in learning more about these charities may visit www.dkjfoundation.org.

Past year’s proceeds have helped Sanborn Home Care provide specialized training and equipment for their staff and clients; the development of their Urgent Respite Care Program for caregivers; and has helped cover the operational cost; i.e., insurance, gas and ride subsidies for their 14 passenger, wheel chair accessible van purchased for Sanborn a few years ago by the Reading Rotary.

This year’s proceeds will assist with the newly acquired Adult Day Health Services Program, Sanborn Day. The For Profit Active Day had served Sanborn Place and Home Care Community Clients for the past fifteen years. Once known as Deerfield Adult Day Services, Sanborn Day is a viable resource of caring and prevention of institutional care.
The DKJ Foundation wants to help individuals in the community and the foundation needs your help.

There are many ways to support the annual golf tournament.  Please consider golfing, sponsoring a hole, attending the reception, donating to the raffle or to the golfer’s goody bags.
