July 20, 2011 - PRLog -- First introduced in 1990, the 1994 Australian Silver Kookaburra was only the fifth coin issued in this celebrated coin series.

The Silver Kookaburra is one of a handful of pure silver coins in the world that changes its design each year. Because the Perth Mint gives these coins a fresh look yearly, and because they have a very limited mintage, the Australian Kookaburra has become one of the most sought-after silver coins in the world. This 1994 issue was produced 17 years ago, with very few having been graded, making this a rare and desirable addition to your collection.

The obverse features the crowned profile of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Raphael Maklouf in 1985. The portrait depicts the Queen wearing part of the British Crown Jewels, the George IV Royal Diadem, which Her Majesty wears on her way to and from the State Opening of Parliament.

1994's reverse was designed by Milena Milan and depicts a pair of Kookaburras perched on the branch of a eucalyptus tree. The rolling, laughing call of the Kookaburra is one of the most familiar sounds in the forest of eastern Australia. These birds raise a wild chorus of insane laughter at dawn and dusk so regularly that in the hinterlands of Australia they are known as the “bushman's clock.”

Minted in one troy ounce of .999 Fine Silver and graded MS70 by ANACS, the 1994 Australian Silver Kookaburra is minted in a stunning 'reverse-proof' finish, which is the opposite of US proof coins. The background of the Kookaburra is frosted while the images themselves are rendered in a mirror-like finish, allowing them to catch the light beautifully.

With a weight of: 31.135 g, a diameter of: 40.60 mm, a thickness of: 4.00 mm and a purity of: .999 Fine Silver.
