July 18, 2011 - PRLog -- It's true that individuals will expend one year of their life searching for lost objects or documents. That is one year you could spend being productive, if you were organized.

If the thought of organizing your house office has me overwhelmed for you, try separating your workplace into sections. Begin with one small section of the room and once that section is organized move to the following small section. This may take a little longer, but remember, it took a while for the office to penetrate such a mess, therefore it might take a while to straighten it. Anything you do, when you get one small section done, keeping it.

The easiest place to start could possibly become your desk. Take a step back and have a long look at it. Is it so cluttered with papers and computer equipment that you find it difficult to work on? If that's the case, undergo all of the papers on your desk. Discard any documents unnecessary and file away ones that you'll use later. Only keep the ones available that are highly relevant to your present project. Can these documents be scanned and saved on the disk or on your pc? This helps reduce clutter even more.

Now look at your computer equipment It is taking up an excessive amount of room on your desk? Obtain a flat screen monitor. This can free up a lot of space. Buy a separate table for that printer. Get one that has plenty of space for storage underneath for printing supplies. Buy keyboard tray that mounts underneath the desk to keep the keyboard off of your workspace. If your desk is against a wall, utilize the space on the wall above the desk. Mount attractive cabinets or shelves here for more storage for files, reference material and computer disks or cds.

Now attack the papers that are cluttering your office. Have two bins available. The first is the shredding bin for papers that require shredded and also the other may be the keep bin for papers that need filed away. Tackle the paper piles one pile at a time. Go through them carefully to make sure it is nothing you need to keep, and then throw it in the appropriate bin. There is no reason to hold onto the old electricity bill unless you need it for tax purposes. Exactly the same with receipts. If you are keeping a receipt for warranty purposes, staple it towards the user's manual.

Once all of the papers are weeded through, undergo your filing cabinet and cleanse all the old papers that you do not need. File your present documents and make new files when needed. Shred everything, even though you think it doesn't need shredded. Shredded paper takes up less room and for that reason it is possible to get more into the trash bin.

These are some general suggestions for organizing your home office. Search the web for more ideas or examine organizing magazines. It is important to remember about organizing your home office is, once it is organized, keep it that way!
