| Fans impatient for new work by ShilohIt's been three years since his novel about celebrity was published. But the author of POOKOO is crafting his follow-up just the way he wants, despite the early calls for a new work. The first book took 17 years. "This one won't," he says.
"This one won't," Doug Shiloh says. "Just to be clear, I haven't done a J.D. Salinger," Shiloh said, referring to the infamous lack of publication THE CATCHER IN THE RYE author had before dying in January of 2010. "I've been working as a side project to develop a definitive deluxe edition of POOKOO and I'm very happy with it as a story. I wrote it in three major segments of time and it stands up as far as I'm concerned." A Twitter account even shows the "relevance" to current news stories that show how POOKOO is relevant. The site is http://www.twitter.com/ Others must have enjoyed the comically dark book about celebrity obsession, too. The novel was downloaded about 4,000 times from Shiloh's web sites before it was deliberately taken down as a download. But it is available from Amazon.com as a Kindle e-book or as a paperback at http://www.amazon.com/ "I've contemplated a sequel [to POOKOO], but there are many stories to be told and this new book is in the editing stages, so I'm really gearing up for a Fall 2011 push." The new novel is WAITING FOR THE END, a post-9-11 story that follows a man throughout the first 50 years of his life. "It begins as a family story and goes from there." Set in Massachusetts, not far from where Shiloh graduated high school, it depicts a childhood in the 1970s and adulthood during the 1980s. Shiloh's most recent short story, "The Second Coming", was published in 2010 at http://www.stockyardmagazine.com. Another will be published in a prominent Canadian zine in 2011.
