July 14, 2011 - PRLog -- PORTLAND, Ore. – Parr Lumber joined Ronald McDonald House Charities to honor the Krohn family during the Rose Festival's Starlight Parade through downtown Portland June 4, 2011.

On January 16, 2010, Jayden Krohn was born four months early weight just 1 pound 5 ounces making him the second smallest premature baby ever born at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. For nearly five months Jayden’s parents, Ian and Catie, stayed at the Ronald McDonald House keeping watch on their son whose health changed daily.

“We didn’t get to touch Jayden until he was 50 days old,” said Catie. “You’ll never meet people as genuinely caring as those at Ronald McDonald House.”

Today Jayden, nicknamed “Toy Soldier” for his strength is making great progress and to honor his fight the family was invited up from their home in Dallas to ride in the Starlight Parade. The float, designed and built by Parr Lumber, features a drive-in movie theater complete with a wooden ’57 Chevy. Parr Lumber employees and Ronald McDonald House Charity volunteers and guest families road atop the float, pulled by a restored 1944 Ford truck, part of Parr Lumber’s original fleet.

“We couldn’t do it without Parr,” said Tom Soma Executive Director of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington. “Next to McDonalds, Parr Lumber is our second largest supporter.”

Parr Lumber supports RMHC throughout the year with ongoing events and activities, and sells select merchandise that benefits RMHC at all of its locations. “We’re proud to partner with Ronald McDonald House and to support families in our community,” said Parr Lumber CEO David Hamill.

More than 250,000 onlookers lined the parade route.
