July 14, 2011 - PRLog -- ATLANTA, GA – Make It Happen Entertainment, in association with the famous Sugar Bar is proud to welcome Jazz Saxophonist Dee Lucas to perform at artists Ashford & Simpson’s Sugar Bar.  Lucas will make his live performance at the Soulful Sounds at the world’s famous Sugar Bar in New York City on Friday, July 15, 2011. Tickets are $10; Doors open at 8:45 p.m. and ShowTime is 9:00 p.m.  The Sugar Bar is located at 254 W 72nd Street, New York, NY 10023-2805

The Sugar Bar was established in 1996 by Nickolas Ashford, one half of the songwriting and performing sensation Ashford & Simpson. Co-owned with his wife, Valerie Simpson, the Sugar Bar offers an intimate and elegant ambiance with the feel of an old country village, on the trendy upper West Side of Manhattan.

The Sugar Bar is best known for its sensational cuisine and live entertainment.  Since its inception, the Sugar Bar has been the hot spot for celebrities such as: Bruce Willis, Stevie Wonder, Whoopi Goldberg, Eddie Murphy, Diahann Carroll, Berry Gordy, Dr. Maya Angelou and many others.

Lucas, a self-taught 42-year-old Atlanta-based artist didn’t pick up the sax until the age of 28. However, as a child growing up he always dreamed of being a musician but instead he pursued sports due to financial constraints. He first came to prominence in 2004 with his debut CD, “Remembrance”, which is a tribute to legendary saxophonist George Howard.  Since his well-received debut, Lucas has been greeted with stunning reviews, garnered extensive airplay and consistently climbed charts and branded his timeless sound in the smooth jazz market.  He developed his distinctive style by collaborating urban funk sounds to smooth melodic that is both relaxing and soothing to the ear.  In 2007, his sophomore CD, “Something to Ride 2” received heavy rotation in many smooth jazz markets with the Herbie Hancock classic “Chameleon”, which peaked at #10 on the Smoothjazz.com “Top 50 Indie Charts”.

Lucas' upcoming project, “Rebirth of the Smooth”, a 16-song smooth jazz collection, will be released digitally on July 22, 2011.  From smooth jazz to stepping, this cd is a collection of Lucas' top tracks and there's something for everyone on this cd.

The track titled,“Reconcile” is produced by Karey Davis; co-produced by Dee Lucas and Karey Davis.  This song signifies a moment of hope manifesting out of negative situations ranging from a personal relationship, racism, to foreign conflict.    “Nothing That I Do” - produced by Jon Roberts; co-written by Jon Roberts, Dee Lucas, and vocalist Terri Carroll.  This song tells the story of how one's efforts and contributions in a relationship is still not enough from their counterpart's point-of-view.  Vocalist Terri Carroll delivers sultry background vocals, which eventually leads to a soul-stirring testimony near the end of the song.

“Keep Knocking” is a testimony of perseverance, inspiring others not to give up in life. Produced by drummer PJ Spraggins, Lucas says, “I co-wrote this song with him definitely for the contemporary jazz lovers but thinking slightly outside the box melodically.  It's definitely a record I will quite often perform in a live setting.”

“My new CD is special because it offers a wide array of styles coming from various producers pushing the envelope in contemporary jazz. The end result forces me to continue growing as an artist and deliver fresh music for my fans,” says Lucas.  He will  kick off his national "Rebirth of the Smooth" Tour in August.  For tour dates, visit his website.
