You should consult a physcian before starting any weight loss program. Be careful and smart. (Now that I got the disclaimer out of the way) I had tried a couple of diets in the past. Many left me feeling hungry, or anxious, or downright onry! But I knew there was a better way and so I brushed up on my bio-chemistry. Most of the rapid weight loss diets on the market leverage the insulin principle. This is based on the fact that if you can cut out carbs (not as hard as you think - I will get to that in a minute) the body is forced into burning stored fat to provide energy. By cutting out carbs, blood sugar levels remain more stable throughout the day, giving your pancreas a rest. The body gets energy from three sources: - glycogen (carbs) - protein - fats When it has burned up the carbs it starts to work on the fat (and protein (which can be a problem if you are not careful -- more in a moment). Most of us pile on so many carbs that the body never gets a chance to cut into the fat! This is also complicated by the fact that the carbs trigger high insulin levels which STOP fat burning. So all of the sugar you consume is stopping the fat loss. Some diets let you eat all of the protein and fat that you want (like Atkins) and some give you too many carbs with each meal. The answer to the problem is to make sure that you feed your body CLEAN protein LOW in FAT! Eating this kind of protein will also kill your appetite for carbs. There are also a couple of nutrients you can add to the drink to add flavor and increase calorie burning. There is one diet in particular that offer packages of protein that you have to pay up to $100.00 dollars a week to use. If you buy their supplements this price tag is even higher....MUCH higher. I found several clean protein sources in my local health food store that cost a fraction of what you would pay for one week on other diets. (And these will last you an entire MONTH!)
