Introducing Lost Crates – a new subscription service for stationery lovers

Lost Crates is a curated subscription service that uses members’ style preferences to put together a personalized crate of unique, high-end stationery supplies, like notebooks, pens, and desk accessories.
July 8, 2011 - PRLog -- Nothing is better than receiving a package in the mail, carefully assembled and filled with interesting surprises by someone who knows and loves you.  Lost Crates (http://www.lostcrates.com), a new startup from Chicago, gives its members that wonderful rush each and every month.

Lost Crates is a curated subscription service that uses members’ style preferences to put together a personalized crate of unique, high-end stationery supplies, like notebooks, pens, and desk accessories.

The monthly service launched this spring and the first crates were shipped out in June.  Excited Charter Members were quick to post dozens of positive comments to Facebook, Twitter, and to various discussion boards and blogs.  Member Carolyn R. wrote, “My first crate has arrived! It was a great surprise to come home from work to, and I loved every bit of it right down to the packing materials!”  In the month following the initial June shipment, membership has more than tripled, and continues to grow at an impressive rate.

Lost Crates members begin by creating an account and taking a short quiz to determine tastes and preferences so that each crate can be customized according to a member’s personal style. Members then receive a new crate with three to five unique, high-end products each month. Lost Crates carries a variety of brands, from the ever-popular Moleskine to lesser-known brands like French Paper Co., so that members receive trusted favorites as well as an introduction to something new they may love.

Lost Crates was created with artists, writers, and stationery lovers in mind. The founders, themselves stationery addicts, set out to share their passion by delivering old and new favorites for their members to discover and experience. They decided to design the service as a monthly subscription in order to provide a recurring “surprise” package for their members.

In addition to its founders, the Lost Crates team includes 5 curators of diverse styles and backgrounds, who love to sift through, search for, and recommend unique products from around the globe.  Curators include quirky, letterpress-loving Angie Brown, who doodles in a leather-bound journal, while rocking colorful, vintage jewelry and Kyoto-based fashion designer Garrett Buxton, who sports broken-in Ray-Bans with colorful Madras shirts while sketching men’s apparel with a Lamy cp1 pen.

Lost Crates is based in Chicago and backed by Sandbox Industries, the business incubator and early-stage venture capital firm.
