July 5, 2011, Washington DC – A new PLAIN WRITING online course is offering writing students of all ages and background a firm foundation on how to write and communicate well.

The 6-week online course, designed, written and administered by University of Maryland English Professor Connie Balcher, covers a lot of ground including the following:

•   Principles of Plain Language
•   Plain Language in the Workplace
•   History of Plain Language
•   Future of Plain Language
•   Plain Language Resources

Each lesson is accompanied by

The students can register for the course anytime and start taking it no matter where they are on the face of the globe.

The only prerequisite is a computer with Internet access and a browser.

Who is Prof. Connie Balcher?

Founder and President of Triple Crown Communications, LLC. Prof. Balcher has an M.A. in TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Linguistics from Columbia University.

She began her career as Training Director at Manufacturers Hanover Trust in New York City.

She has taught writing at University of Maryland College Park, Johns Hopkins University, and Columbia University.

Over her career, Prof. Balcher has taught bankers, engineers, and scientists to improve their writing skills. She has taught bankers at Manufacturers Hanover Trust and the American Institute of Banking, engineers at the Department of Transportation, and scientists at the Food and Drug Administration.
