Mexico Real Estate – Beachfront in Cancun to Benefit from Ongoing Maintenance

June 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Mexico real estate on Cancun’s beachfront is to continue receiving the benefit of the beach recovery program which began late 2009; a new phase of the program is soon to begin maintenance of the recently recovered areas.

Cancun real estate has been one of the favorite markets within Mexico beachfront for sale, in a good part due to the wide, white sandy beaches which originally made the area famous.  To this day, a condo overlooking Cancun’s beaches is something like a standard in the definition of life on Mexico’s beachfront.

For this reason, the beach recovery program which took place at the end of 2010 was important for this market.  The recovery program re-widened several long stretches of Cancun’s beaches to their original width and sometimes more; the width, after the recovery program, was between 70 and 100 meters.  The program was considered to be a plus for the value of the real estate not only directly on the beach, but in the Cancun area in general.

In addition to the widening program, at the same time a trust was created to take responsibility for maintaining these same beaches and ensuring that they would not undergo  corrosion to the same extent.

The first phase of the maintenance part of the program will be focusing on three miles of beaches starting at the area known as Punta Cancun.

Roberto Borge Angulo, the Governor of the State of Quintana Roo (which includes Cancun and Playa del Carmen) has set a goal to accelerate the maintenance of beaches, and the first stage starting at Punta Cancun could start within a week.

The current maintenance work will be to level the steps that have formed in the beach sand, which at some points exceed one meter – a phenomenon that was accounted for in the original project.

The 12 miles of beach have, to date, become up to 50% percent narrower, bringing some areas down almost to the 35 meters which was set as a minimum.  However, officials state that the sand has not been lost, but simply wash out onto the slope under the surface of the sea; the original recovery program also accounted for this, and designed the restored beaches in such a way that this sand can be recovered – another part of the maintenance program.

Currently, it is expected that for the first stage of maintenance 700 thousand pesos (about 60,000 USD) will be used.  A total of 50 million pesos (about 4.5 million USD) have been allotted for the overall program.
