Stinging Insects Pose a Threat this Summer

Common to the Triangle, stinging insects like bees and wasps pose a real threat to human and pet health. Raleigh’s Triangle Pest Control offers pest elimination options to control stinging insect populations and keep your family safe.

June 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Now that summer is here in the Triangle, homeowners should be diligent about watching for stinging insects, including bees, wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets.  While many of these stinging insects provide protection against other nuisance pests like flies, having them nest or swarm near your home is a threat to the well being of family, kids, and pets.

Many of these flying pests are characterized by their aggressive behavior, attacking any person or animal that gets too close to their nests.  Some stinging insects, particularly yellow jackets, are even capable of stinging a victim multiple times.

In every case, there is the chance that even a single sting may trigger a violent--and potentially fatal--allergic reaction.  In fact, the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service reports that around 13 million Americans are allergic to insect stings and approximately 100 people die each year from being stung.  Small children and the elderly are particularly susceptible.

"If you discover a nest near your home or see stinging insects swarming, don’t disturb them," says Donnie Shelton, President & CEO of Triangle Pest Control in Raleigh.  "Also, never swat or crush these insects.  This often will just incite others to attack."

If stinging insects are bugging your household, Shelton says the best course of action is to contact a pest control professional.

"If you suspect that bees, wasps, hornets, or other stinging insects have built a nest near your home, do not try to handle the situation yourself.

"At Triangle Pest Control, our professional pest control technicians know how to properly treat infestation of stinging insects, tracking down the source of the infestation and administering targeted treatments to eliminate the problem."

Triangle Pest Control technicians also are trained to identify factors around a property that are attractive to stinging insects and then make recommendations to help prevent future infestation.

Says Shelton, “Our goal is to protect your home and your loved ones by keeping these potentially dangerous insects from coming back.”
