On inauguration day, 25th May 2011, there will be a ceremony on the quayside, with a performance of music and dance – Samba Show, performed by members of the Aalborg International Carnival, the largest carnival in Northern Europe. This will be a delightful spectacle for crew and guests on board ship and visitors to the quayside. There will also be a ceremonial opening of the cruise berth, with Balmoral's Master, Captain Olav Soevdsnes cutting the ribbon. The City of Aalborg will then present a plaque to the Captain, commemorating Balmoral’s first visit to the new berth. Martin Lister, Planning Manager for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines, said: “We are delighted that Balmoral will be the first cruise ship to berth at the new Aalborg Royal City Berth, and we are honoured that we have been asked to open the new berth officially, and to play a key role in this prestigious event. I am sure the crew and guests aboard Balmoral will all be delighted to take part in the celebrations.” Find out more about the City of Aalborg, by visiting http://www.visitaalborg.com, and about Fred.
