June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- Visitors to a major industry trade fair last week had an opportunity to be some of the first to see a new website which is aiming to end digital confusion for consumers across the UK.

digitalhelp.org will provide clear and simple advice and ‘how to’ information for digital technology ranging from digital television to broadband and home networks.

As well as help and information, the site will provide access to a searchable list of licensed digital engineers in their area for those times when consumers need more help from a professional to install or maintain digital equipment.

The RDI-LB is a government backed licensing scheme which provides an independently administered ‘licence to practice’ for digital installers and engineers and involves independent vetting to ensure that they are qualified, competent, safe and suitably insured.

The licensing scheme is backed by the Government’s ‘digital tick’ certification mark and has the support of the digital industry, training providers, and trade associations as well as consumer protection bodies such as Trading Standards and Consumer Direct.

Martin Smith, Managing Director of the RDI-LB said: “Our aim is to give consumers the confidence to know that the engineer they invite into their home is not a rogue trader.”

He said that the scheme “is unique in vetting all engineers and ensuring they are professional and competent.”

The website which due to be launched in September 2011, is expected to become the leading source of independent advice and support for digital technology and RDI-LB are working with Government agencies, manufacturers and retailers to promote digitalhelp.org.
