Fisheries Out Of ControlAttached please find my school paper that outlines the fact that fisheries and governments are not paying attention to the fish population.
By: Brayden Rankin Major fishing industries all over the world are over fishing almost all of the fish in the sea. All of the fish population have dropped drastically since 1950, about when commercial fishing took off. At one point, scientists estimated that we would have to catch about only 15 thousand tonnes of fish each year to keep the fish population from collapsing further and 10 thousand tonnes if we were to let the fish population recover. However, the ministers voted for a limit of 30 thousand tonnes every year, twice what we need to be fishing. The scary part is that the actual fisheries ignore all of this and catch 60 thousand tonnes of fish a year, that is actually four times what would keep the fish population healthy. Four times more than the limts set to ensure we have fish around for later generations! Everyone needs to figure out how they can help save the fiish population. Let’s work together.
