June 9, 2011 - PRLog -- Mold is a fungal growth that grows easily in warm and moist conditions. Mold creates spores which are seed-like in their nature and contain chemicals that have a negative affect on a person's health. Not every person is affected the same way. But few people want to allow mold spores to enter their body.

What Are Mold Spores?

Mold is an tiny organism that eats plant or animal matter. Spores are how mold spreads its DNA. They travel, through the air, for example, and find a new place to form another mold growth. They are small and seed-like. When a new place has been found, they grow and spread.

How Do Mold Spores Enter the Body?

There are three main ways the mold and its spores can enter the body.

• Through the lungs: Because mold can be carried in the air, it can also enter a person's lungs when inhaled.

• Through contact with the skin: When mold touches skin it may cause irritation. In rare cases, it has been said to cause ulcers on the skin.

• Through the food eaten: Spoiled food can carry mold and when ingested can cause health problems.

What Happens to a Body That Encounters Spores?

There are a range of things that could happen to the body upon contact with mold.

Some people will experience no affects. However, other people will experience the following:

• Allergy like symptoms: From hay fever to asthma and even itching of the eyes, mold can cause allergic reactions.

• Infections: Especially in people with suppressed immune systems (a person with AIDS or HIV for example), mold can cause serious infections and illness.

• Toxic effects: Mostly in the case of ingesting mold, toxic effects have occurred.
