Perma Piazza Pavers Put to the Ultimate Test

Rinox constructed a demonstrational model to put our new Perma Piazza (permeable paver system) to the ultimate test for water flow through. The test area of permeable pavers passed 4,000 gallons of water through the system in thirty minutes.

June 7, 2011 - PRLog -- Perma Piazza Permeable Pavers put to the Ultimate Test Rinox Pavers

Rinox set up a demonstration model to put our new Perma Piazza (permeable paver system) to the ultimate test for water flow through.  The Perma Piazza is a uniquely cast paver with small voids to allow storm water to pass directly down through the system more naturally.  This paver system is designed to handle heavy traffic loads and is ideal for parking lots and driveways.
For this permeable experiment, we constructed raised retaining wall in a square shape in order to create an even cavity for the permeable paver test.  The void behind the newly constructed retaining wall was left empty to construct the new permeable paver system with Perma Piazza.  The 814 square foot cavity (open space behind the wall) was lined with a rubber impervious pond liner to capture all the water passed through the system determine the flow through rate.  A series of 4 inch pervious pipes were installed on top of the liner and connected to one solid discharge pipe to collect all the water applied to the surface area during the test.
The construction of the permeable paver system started with a base of clean stone places in top of the liner and discharge piping.  Approximately 12 inches of ¾” clean stone (#57) was spread and compacted in 4 inch lifts for the base.

The next step was screeding off 2 inches of No. 8 stone over the base stone. This step is essential to level the pavers before installation.  The pavers were later installed in a herringbone pattern directly on top of the No.8 Stone.

After all the pavers were installed AquaStone 5 was swept into the paver joints.  The entire paver area was compacted with a vibratory plate ensuring a strong surface.
Permeable paver systems can minimize or eliminate the need for storm water infrastructure and are better for the environment than conventional paving.  This permeable paver system allows the water to pass directly downward to recharge the sub grade.  Impervious surfaces collect more pollutants as the water is directed into storm water inlets and retention basins.
