June 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Alice Osborn and Book Revue, Long Island’s largest independent bookstore, invite the public to a free poetry workshop with Alice Osborn, author of Unfinished Projects, published by Main Street Rag Publishing Company, on Sunday, June 26th at Book Revue (313 New York Ave, Huntington, NY 11743) in downtown Huntington from 3:00-5:00 pm. Book Revue is a family-owned independent bookstore founded in 1977 in the village of Huntington and is considered a cultural and social center for its community by drawing in names such as President Bill Clinton, Ralph Nader, Sarah Ferguson and Kathie Lee Gifford, and by providing interesting workshops, book groups, children’s programs and other events for their customers.

Anne Davidson, publicist and event coordinator at the Book Revue says, “Book Revue’s commitment to the community extends well beyond what most bookstores do: we host programs for aspiring writers just like Alice Osborn’s poetry workshop. In addition to these programs, our ongoing schedule of distinguished author readings and celebrity appearances has become known as one of the finest in America, and we are pleased to be able to offer these events to our customers on a regular basis.”

Homer Hickam, author of Rocket Boys/October Sky and The Dinosaur Hunter, says this about Alice Osborn:
“She uses words like a master potter—molding the clay of the mind into vessels that hold not things, but life, place, and time.”

David T. Manning, author of The Flower Sermon, says, “Alice Osborn convincingly shows us in the poem ‘Challenger 7,’ how tragedy, both national and personal, is elevated to a cosmic/spiritual domain where the Pleiades mourn the tragedy in the astronauts’ own ‘living room’. There are many scenes in this most intimate collection that will live long with the reader.”

Born in Washington, D.C. the winter after Watergate to a French mother and a civil servant father, Alice Osborn came of age in Charleston and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech and North Carolina State who served as a ROTC cadet, waitress, makeup artist and high school teacher. Alice Osborn uses all of her experiences now as an instigator of writing happenings and as a creative writing teacher to students ages 9-90. Her work has appeared in Raleigh’s News and Observer, The Pedestal Magazine, and in numerous journals and anthologies. She is also the managing editor of Med Monthly Magazine, a national healthcare trade publication. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, with her husband and two children.
