Filmmakers are welcome to begin film submissions of all genres for RIFE 2011

June 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Washington, DC – June 3, 2011 - The 2nd Annual Reel Independent Film Extravaganza (RIFE) –-- “More than a festival,” ---- is an event created BY filmmakers FOR filmmakers which will take place October 22 – 23, 2011 at THEARC Theater in Washington, DC.  Last year’s festival attracted an array of films from Canada, Japan, the Netherlands and Bolivia.  Spencer F. Johnson, MD, the CEO of Prince George’s County based Skyrocket Productions, LLC is the Founder and Executive Producer of the festival. Dr. Johnson’s mission is to provide an event which strives to present the best of truly independent films in a variety of categories from around the world. The festival environment is designed to provide unique opportunities for participants to interact with one another and take part in Q&A’s after certain films, conducted by cutting edge members of the independent film community and entertainment professionals.

This two (2) day festival will be a celebration of emerging filmmakers and independent films.  Highlighting the talents of local, national and international filmmakers, RIFE offers a diverse program and fosters public awareness of independent cinema as a cultural and educational asset.  The RIFE aims to promote and support the artistry of independent cinema from emerging filmmakers of all genres.  The festival is seeking films that are engaging and innovative, reflecting a distinctive vision and independent spirit.  Sunday, October 23, 2011 there will be a DMV Film Showcase which will feature films created by DMV Filmmakers or filmed in the DC, MD, VA areas.

Filmmakers are encouraged to submit films for this fabulous festival.  One filmmaker will be awarded $500 for the Viewers’ Choice REEL Best Film Award and one filmmaker will be awarded $500 for the juried REEL Filmmaker to Watch Award and also there will be seven (7) filmmakers awarded REEL Recognition Awards.  The Reel Independent Film Festival & Extravaganza is more than a festival---it is a new kind of experience! This festival and extravaganza is open to the public.

A portion of the proceeds from the film festival will benefit A World Fit for Kids and Susan G Komen for Cure in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, October.
