By: Dr. Suversha Khanna The children carried Gandhigiri by showing the gathering ills of smoking through a 10 feet high cigarette memento (Largest ever to be made in Asia), giving a 8 feet long signed graffiti for Yogi Deveshwar, Chairman of ITC, by observing silence for 2 minutes in memory of those who have died due to smoking and putting black ribbon on their lips as a token of protest. Commenting on the silent protest, Pankaj Sharma, Chief Trustee, Centre for Transforming India stated that due to smoking and other forms of tobacco consumption more than 10 lac people die every year. For every rupee earned by the industry the government has to spent at least five as additional healthcare burden besides a massive loss of life . This silent protest of children to save their future from this demon called smoking is indeed a commendable effort to shake the soul of organizations for whom profit motive matters more than even human life.
