May 17, 2011 - PRLog -- When The Bloody Muffs played Otto's Shrunken Head on Friday May 13, people knew what to expect. The band played the vast majority of their catalog and showed the packed house just how locked in they are after an 8 week blitz around NYC. People have been debating which show was the best ever and Friday was right up there with the best of the best. The band announced from stage that night that their next show would be on the eve of the Rapture, May 20 at Fat Baby in NYC's LES.
Fast forward 68 hours. The Marquee at Otto's had front man Jonesy, aka Lesac Dedouche listed as the 8pm performer. Bassist Jessica Carmen was already there when Jonesy walked in w/touring drummer Erin Millerick. Next thing you know The Bloody Muffs were taking the stage to surprise event organizer Jo Brown for the 2nd anniversary of SWIIM- a monthly event on the 3rd Monday put on by Future Of Rock that features many of the scene's best artists at Otto's Shrunken Head.
"It was at the first SWIIM (actually it wasn't called SWIIM yet) in 2009 when I walked into the bar and Jo had told me Jonesy's bassist quit before the gig." recalls Jessica Carmen. "Having worked w/him in the past many times, I immediately went up to him and told him I'd fill in until they found a replacement." 2 albums and a National tour later, Jessica is still in the band.
"That first SWIIM the band was in disarray. I was trying to hold it together as it came apart at the seams. A week after Jessica offered to help I told her we were recording our album in a couple of weeks and I wanted her to be on it." says Lesac Dedouche. "Here we are 2 years later preparing for our second major tour."
The band ripped through classics like "Loved Me Like A Drug", "Flop House", and "Fireworks & Beer" from that first cd Heavy Flow as well as many selections from 2010's follow up Sloppy Seconds. They also played their newest song which is sung by Jessica and is still untitled at press time.
"Erin really impressed me by nailing the new song. She did an amazing job on everything, but we just worked that song out w/Kat (Kat Kaos the band's regular drummer) a week ago. For her to nail it w/o a recording as quick as she did- it was incredible" says Jessica.
Erin's regular band Out Of Order just came off their biggest show where they headlined Studio At Webster Hall on Saturday. What did Erin think of her first Otto's experience? "It was sick! So fun!"
The Bloody Muffs have a few shows coming up in the next 2 weeks. 5-20 they are at Fat Baby at 9pm w/Aunt Hildegard and Tied For Last. Then on May 27 they are doing a tour fundraiser at their secret "Muff Cave" w/Out Of Order and The Dead Tricks plus two sets by The Bloody Muffs- one w/each drummer.
Wed June 1 the tour kicks off at Otto's Shrunken Head in NYC, then continues to Pittsburgh's 31st Street Pub on the 2nd, Youngstown OH's University Pizza on the 3rd and Cleveland's Spitfire Saloon on June 4. The tour continues to Lake Villa IL, Omaha NE, and Columbia MO the next three dates before hitting Tulsa on the 9th, St Louis on the 10th, Oshkosh WI on the 11th and Schererville IN on the 12th before concluding on June 13 in Youngstown at the Royal Oaks.
