Follow on Google News | Trout Fishing Tips for BeginnersAvid anglers are always on the look out for more trout fishing tips. Not only does it allow them to catch more trout, these trout fishing tips can greatly enhance the experience of the young angler in your family.
The trout fishing tips that I am about to share with you are things that I have learned over the years growing up and fishing for trout in cold mountain streams. There is really not one correct or incorrect set of trout fishing tips out there because they all have trout fishing tips that work. The first of the trout fishing tips that I have is location, location, location. If you are looking to catch trout, the absolute best place for this is a cold mountain stream. It could be as small as a creek or as large as a river. Trout do not do well in warm waters. This is the reason you do not see many trout streams in the south eastern United States. You will find some trout that have been stocked in the tail waters of dams but for the most part the trout do not survive as long as they do in a mountain stream. Head to the mountains for some good trout fishing. The second of my trout fishing tips also has to do with location. This has more to do with where to fish on the river than it does which river to fish. With these trout fishing tips you will be able to locate the place on the river that most likely holds your next meal. When scouting a river I like to find rapids. Not the white water type of rapids but rather rapids that kind of roll over the surface of the rocks in the water and break up the surface. This area is great for drifting live bait or fly fishing. The second area that I look for is a deep pool either above or normally below the rapids that has some cover like a log jam. These log jams are a great hiding and resting place for trout. Another of my trout fishing tips is bait selection. I am not a fan of artificial baits like lures, maybe I just never learned the proper way to fish them. The artificial baits that I do use are flies and salmon eggs. Yes I consider processed salmon eggs artificial. Live baits are one of my trout fishing tips secrets. Worms are always a good standby but there are much better ones. Caddisfly larvae are probably my absolute favorite live bait. You can pick them up in the river and all you have to to is remove the shell and put them on your hook. This bait has never failed me in catching trout. The other two trout catching tips baits that I have used can both be caught on dry land. It is great fun for your kids to go out and catch this bait. The first one is fairly easy to catch and that is beetles. Although not as good as the Caddisfly, it is still a very good bait. The second one is grasshoppers. Grasshoppers are equal to if not better than the Caddisfly as far as the ability to catch trout. I especially love to use grasshoppers in the rapids themselves. With each of these live baits, I have enjoyed the most success with using no weights at all. It takes a little getting used to and you can’t cast very far but I assure you, you will catch trout. I just toss it upstream a little ways and let it drift. Catches them every time. Well there you have it, my trout fishing tips. Good luck and happy fishing.
