Follow on Google News | Survey and State Employment Expert Project Positive Permanent Hiring Outlook for Upcoming MonthsA survey from CareerBuilder and data from a New Jersey staffing organization report that permanent hiring in New Jersey is projected to increase within the next couple of months.
By: Snelling Staffing - The Wyckoff Group “Our job orders for permanent employees have more than quadrupled in Monmouth, Ocean and Middlesex Counties,” says Frank Wyckoff, President of TWG. “Our local client companies are already informing us of their hiring plans for June and July.” Wyckoff states that during 2010, businesses were heavily relying on temporary and contracts workers, a common strategy for an unpredictable economy. While employers are still utilizing a contingent workforce to control costs, hiring managers are now becoming more confident in the market and leaning towards using temporary-to- A March 2011 CareerBuilder survey conducted of over 2,800 hiring managers supports Wyckoff’s claim. The study states that while 29% of northeast employers hired contract or temporary workers in the first quarter, this number will slightly decrease to 26% for the remainder of the second quarter. The decrease is compensated by a jump in full-time, permanent hiring: 17% of companies with 50 or less employees, 23% of companies with 500 or less employees and 36% of companies with 500 or more employees all plan to add permanent staff this quarter, increases of 3%, 4% and 6% from last quarter respectively. Accompanying data additionally shows that fewer employers are downsizing from last quarter. Only 4% of small businesses, 5% of medium-sized businesses and 7% of larger organizations plan to eliminate staff this quarter, decreases of 6%, 7% and 9% from last quarter respectively. Wyckoff also reports an additional trend; he states that his offices have seen an increase in currently employed professionals looking for new opportunities. This claim is also supported by CareerBuilder’ “As we see the economy continuously improve, employees will have more opportunities available to them,” says Wyckoff. “Employers should be cautious and commit more time to their employee engagement initiatives. Committed and enthusiastic workers will not only stick around, but also positively influence productivity.” TWG is a national company comprised of Snelling franchise offices with emphasis in New Jersey and King of Prussia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
