May 10, 2011 - PRLog -- In the continued spirit of giving back to the community, Truliant Federal Credit Union has awarded $18,500 in scholarships through the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation Scholar Vision Funds. The Scholar Vision Funds are a collection of resources established to help credit union members achieve a higher level of education.

14 Truliant member-owners were awarded funds from five scholarships through the Scholar Vision Funds, including the Fred J. Sarda, Telephone Pioneers, General Needs Based Fund, General Fund Merit and the Clyde B. Padgett scholarships.  “These scholarships reflect Truliant’s commitment to supporting students in the communities that we serve,” said Marjorie Rorie, Truliant’s director of community services, “and they ensure that our member-owners are afforded an opportunity to continue their education.”

Truliant established the Sarda Scholarship in 1996 to honor Fred J. Sarda, a founding member of the credit union. Elli Hammer, Grace Lempp, Zachary Lineberger, Bethany Meekins, Mandy Northcutt and Zachary Taneyhill received $1,000 each from this scholarship.

The Telephone Pioneers Club Scholarship is awarded each year to Truliant member-owners with a relative who worked or is currently working for AT&T or Lucent Technologies in the Winston-Salem area. Four $2,000 scholarships were awarded in 2011 to Sarah Bland, Charles Graham III, Bradley Taylor and Stanton Wiggins.

Three scholarships were awarded to member-owners from Truliant’s general fund. The 2011 recipients of the $1,000 General Fund Needs Based scholarships are Sarah Jones and Cozette Mead. In addition, Shannyn Holder received a $1,500 General Fund Merit scholarship for academic excellence.

The $1,000 Clyde Padgett Scholarship, named for a former Truliant Chairman of the Board, was awarded to Jordyn Reisenauer.  This scholarship provides funds to help employees, volunteers and their families continue their education.

Truliant provides scholarship applications at the beginning of November each year. Interested applicants may obtain an application from the credit union. For more information on Truliant Federal Credit Union, including community relations and outreach, please visit TruliantFCU.org.
