May 5, 2011 - PRLog -- Houston, TX - The British-American Business Council Houston (BABC), in partnership with United Airlines, has emphasized its support for the British American business community by unveiling its 2nd Annual BABC International Business Awards this week – actively seeking out companies excelling in UK/Texas trade and investment.

“UK companies invest $20b into the economy of Texas annually.  And, there is roughly $8b in trade between the UK and Texas.  The UK is the single largest foreign investor in Texas.  UK companies account for nearly a fifth of all jobs created by foreign-owned affiliates in the State.  BABC wants the companies participating in this transatlantic trade to receive the recognition they deserve for the vital role they play in the economies of Texas and the UK”, said Trevor Parkes, President, British-American Business Council Houston.

The BABC International Business Awards are supported by influential businesses such as United Airlines, Wood Group, Melaroo, Maxwell Drummond International and Dunbar Harder, PLLC.  The support of Gray Hancock, Head of UK Trade and Investment in Houston, has been invaluable in developing the awards criteria and judging process.

Organizations operating in the public and private sector, of all shapes and sizes, are invited to apply for categories ranging from Small to Midsize Business (won in 2010 by Houston based British American Foundation of Texas) to Large Corporate (won by Wood Group based in Aberdeen), through to The Consul General’s Award for Corporate Social Responsibility (won by Kenneth Harder of Dunbar Harder, PLLC based in Houston).

The hunt for the best of British American business in Texas has begun.  To enter this year’s campaign, call 713.351.3940 or visit www.babchouston.org.  Deadline to apply is July 15, 2011.  Finalist will be announced mid-August.  Winners will be announced and honored at the BABC International Business Awards Luncheon on October 5, 2011 at the new Westin Memorial City Hotel.
