May 4, 2011 - PRLog -- May 3, 2011, Hexham, Northumberland. Little Dodo (http://www.littledodo.co.uk), a family-run baby boutique in Hexham, is launching a ‘Donate a Dodo’ competition to help raise money for charity and find the store’s official mascot.

All ages and abilities can enter simply by creating their own handmade dodo and sending it into the shop. For every dodo received, Little Dodo will donate £1 to charity with donations divided between Save the Children and Hexham NCT (National Childbirth Trust).

The store’s website will feature a pattern that can be used and embellished, or participants can design their own dodo with materials they have at home. Dodos will be displayed in the Little Dodo shop and featured in a 'Dodo Gallery' on the store’s website.

The winner will be chosen by owners Maddy and Owain Bennett and will receive a goody bag worth £50. Two runners-up will receive prizes to the value of £20.

The winning design will also become the store’s mascot and have its own little space in the shop and on the Little Dodo website, with the winner receiving credit. The new mascot will make its first official appearance at the Cybermummy conference for parent bloggers in London this June where it will travel to the event with mummy blogger Rosie Scribble.

Owner Maddy Bennett says: ‘We've been struck by everything that's been going on in the news lately, particularly the families suffering in Japan. It's made us stop and think and realise how lucky we are. We’re keen do more as a business to have a positive impact on the world, even if it’s just a small one, which is where the Donate a Dodo competition comes in.’

Owain Bennett adds: ‘We’re not looking for the perfect dodo and anyone can get involved from families and schools to professional crafters. The dodo can be made from fabric, card, papier-mâché, pompoms … anything you like really. The aim is to raise as much money as possible for our chosen charities and have fun in the process.’

Participants can send their homemade dodo to: Little Dodo, 23 St Mary’s Chare, Hexham, NE46 1NQ. The competition will run from May 3rd 2011 until June 18 2011.The winner will be announced on June 21 2011.
