Follow on Google News | Open invitation to debate the future of education in Nigeria and AfricaHigh level debate on the educating of Nigerian students
By: Ali Bushnell The Acting High Commissioner for Nigeria, Dozie Mwanna, is the special guest of honour and will be taking part in the event. The debate entitled ‘Education – The new face of evolution’ takes place at 1pm in the Goldstein Lecture Theatre at Coventry University (opposite the Cathedral steps) and has an impressive list of guest speakers which include: Mallam Nasir El’Rufai (the former Minister of the Federal Capital of Abuja) Dr. A. Hector-Goma (MD, Kay Hector Health Consultancy) Deinsam Dan Ogan, the organiser of the event and President of ANSCU, said: “Nigerian students firmly believe that in order for things to change for the better, education is the only way to help develop Nigeria. During the debate, we will be discussing what role education can play in Nigeria and West Africa where mismanagement and corruption of oil wealth is ruining the nations. I expect there will be some lively discussion and I hope people will find it interesting, especially if they have an interest in Africa and politics.” Entry to the debate is free and later in the evening, there will be a dinner and party at Studio 54 in Cox Street, which again, is free and tickets given out at the debate. Deinsam Dan Ogan added: “We would be delighted to welcome staff, students and members of the public to listen to the debate and hopefully join us for the party later. We are extremely grateful to our guest speakers who have taken time out of their busy schedules to share the day with us and take part in this debate. It means a lot and shows that they take the issue of education in Nigeria as seriously as we do.” -Ends- For further information, contact Ali Bushnell, External Press and Media Relations Officer on 024 7688 8245. # # # The External Communications team from Coventry University promote a wide range of initiatives, services, success stories and other related aspects of Higher Education and the achievements of its staff and students as well as comment pieces from experts.
