Why Royal Wedding is Inspiration for Optimism

The marriage of Prince William and Kate not only brings interest and excitement, it brings hope and optimism; a chance for an idealistic, romantic diversion from all the negativity around the globe.

April 28, 2011 - PRLog -- The world is all a “twitter” over the impending marriage of Prince William and Kate.  We can say all we want about whether Britain should still have a monarchy, but if we focus on the pomp and circumstance of the next day and a half we might have a brief escape from the negative and few more moments of optimism.

Why are so many people in America, Britain, and around the world so excited about this event?

Here are a few possible answers from your resident optimist.

  1. We loved fairy tales as children and we still love them today.
  2. Regardless of what the inside story is on this relationship, the public story is one of love and romance.  Its public nature allows us to enter, be in, and at least vicariously experience this dream with Will and Kate.
  3. Will and Kate are both viewed as very “down-to-earth” people.  We like to see the unassuming and non-pompous do well.
  4. How about this for TV?  We will get to watch some 12 or more uninterrupted hours of ceremony and civility and not an “in-your-face” reality show.
  5. Without a dream, there can be no optimism.
  6. We have a chance to learn a little history, and learning new stuff especially about our genealogy is always fun and interesting.
  7. Perhaps Prince William’s eventual ascent to the throne of England is the “Golden Opportunity” wrought of his mother, Princess Diana’s, tragic life and death.
  8. A little break from focusing on all the problems of the world can rejuvenate our spirits and renew our energy to keep on trying to make it a better world for those suffering oppression around the earth.
  9. The Royal Wedding is a news story that is guaranteed to have both a good outcome and a positive process (remember the Chilean Miner Story of 2010), at least during the moments of the ceremony itself.  The view of horse drawn carriages and a walk down the aisle in a white dress are symbolic of the positive processes and when they each say “I do” we will witness a positive outcome as well.
 10. We have hope that this event will not be the end of the positive news brought by Prince William and Princess Kate.  We hope the couple will give us many opportunities to share in their optimism of and for the future.
