Google data center to be ever so vane

Answer: No. Power must be generated and delivered at the moment it’s needed.
Google this: Does wind energy have disadvantages?
Answer: Yes. Wind isn’t constant. At times, wind turbines make no electricity.
So can Google rely entirely on wind-generated, western Oklahoma power for its data center under construction in Pryor? No.
Companies like to tout their green credentials, particularly in the month that contains Earth Day. We applaud Google and other companies that have made a commitment to renewable energy, but here are the facts:
Since electricity can’t be easily stored, and because the wind doesn’t always blow (even in western Oklahoma!), these companies actually get power from other sources — coal, natural gas, hydropower, nuclear. Google’s center will be served by the Grand River Dam Authority, which makes electricity from hydropower and gas. No wire will directly connect Google to the wind farm.
Companies buy renewable energy credits, which incentivizes expansion of the infrastructure for renewable energy such as solar and wind. This is good. It should be encouraged. Nevertheless, power will still be made using fossil fuels for the reasons stated above. Whether through market incentives or government mandates, power companies and their customers have gotten greener. For Google’s approach to really make a mark, though, the millions of American computer users who google for answers also need to go green.
