Hanover Student Given Opportunity of a Lifetime

April 25, 2011 - PRLog -- People to People Ambassador Programs, the world leader in global educational travel experiences, announced today that Hanover High School eleventh grader Kyle Sheely has been selected as a recipient of the 2010 Student Ambassador of the Year Award for his exemplary participation in the People to People Student Ambassador Programs. For winning this award, Sheely has been given full tuition and airfare toward the 2011 travel experience of his choice.

Sheely was given the award based on a People to People Ambassador program leader’s recommendation and an extensive review of his leadership ability and dedication to community service, along with a 1,000-word personal essay he wrote describing how participation in the program changed his life.

In 2010, Sheely traveled as a People to People Student Ambassador on the European Heritage program (http://www.peopletopeople.com/TravelExperience/Pages/Students-European-Heritage-WJ-2011.aspx), where he and other high school students from around the U.S. toured through England, France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands and Switzerland.  

For his personal essay, Sheely recounted his most memorable and life-changing event on the trip – meeting and interacting with his host family and local high school students in Germany, from which Sheely learned that friendship and camaraderie can flourish even in the absence of a common language. Sheely wrote, “I was no longer nervous about the language barrier because I truly found that no matter what language we spoke, we could still express compassion, friendship and love for one another.”
