April 18, 2011 - PRLog -- xUmp.com, a leading supplier of scientific educational toys, is trying to encourage kids to get involved in saving the earth by providing a list of environmentally friendly activities to participate in that most people may not have thought of. Each activity is price-conscious and simple to do, making them perfect for parents or teachers wanting to get children involved in Earth Day.

The scientists at xUmp.com thought of seven different ways children can easily do their part in saving the planet:

1.   Play with something that doesn’t need batteries.  Some batteries contain chemicals that are harmful to the earth—choose a toy or kit that doesn't require batteries.

2.   Make your own electricity.  A lot of electricity is produced in ways that can harm the environment.  Consider using kinetic energy to create electricity by simply cranking up a torch light or radio.

3.   Play with the sun. The sun is an underrated source of free energy—use it to power a solar cooking oven or even a  neat robot.

4.   Recycle in creative ways. You can make your own paper and create an Earth Day card with it by using a cool recycled paper press kit.

5.   Experiment with alternative energy.  Fossil fuels are expensive to use and harm the environment in a number of ways.  You can find a number of science kits out there that teach about alternative energies, such as using water to power a fuel cell car.

6.   Explore your own piece of Earth.  By appreciating Mother Earth up close, you will gain more respect for her.  You can use a variety of digging, magnifying or bug-viewing tools to get started.

7.   Learn about sustainable practices.  Some experiment kits allow you to build your very own house that is made by environmentally friendly building materials and is powered by a variety of alternative energy sources.

“Our goal in making this list is for kids to see that it’s not hard for them to make a difference”, said Anton Skorucak, CEO of xUmp.com.  “Making even just one choice to do something different over time is a legitimate way for one person to truly do their part in protecting the planet. We encourage people to pass this along so every child can participate!”
