Smart Transaction – EYMS Chooses Parkeon’s ITSO SolutionBus operators across the UK continue to invest in the latest on-bus ITSO ticketing technology developed by Parkeon.
By: Harvest Hull based East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) has announced that is has selected Parkeon as its ITSO ticketing partner for a scheme involving the installation of Wayfarer200 technology on its fleet of 292 buses, together with associated back office software. The new ticketing equipment will enable EYMS to dual-read ITSO smartcards for concessionary travel as well as the company’s existing Wayfarer-mapped commercial smartcards, which will be extended to include internet top-up functionality. The Wayfarer200 will also be linked to the operator’s existing vehicle monitoring and fuel efficiency system. The project will also support the transmission of Real-Time Information via the Wayfarer200’ Additional benefits include easier maintenance and no need for additional Real-Time hardware, resulting in a reduction in on-bus equipment and less cabin clutter. “Our partnership with Parkeon extends over many years and continuity in terms of technology and service support was an important consideration in placing this order,” says Bob Rackley, EYMS commercial manager. “We are looking forward to bringing the benefits of ITSO concessionary travel to our passengers, while at the same time enhancing our operational efficiency, improving our ticket management flexibility and better integrating our systems and data as a result of our investment in this new generation ticketing.” The bus operator will also be the first company to benefit from the ITSO back office hosted by Yorcard, a facility being established to support the region’s multi-operator ITSO scheme. “EYMS has been a valued and important customer of Parkeon for many years and we are thrilled to have been selected for this prestigious new project,” says Parkeon Transit’s Managing Director, Owen Griffith. The new EYMS ticketing system is scheduled for introduction in the autumn of 2011, ensuring that operator can take advantage of the BSOG AVL and Smartcard enhancements currently available for qualifying technologies.
