| New Book Collection Launched to Mark 150th Anniversary of Civil WarBurnished Bronze Press has introduced The Voices of History Library, an heirloom quality collection of Civil War-era books at affordable prices.
By: ske9999@swbell.net The books selected for the Voices of History Library focus on out-of-print diaries and memoirs written by everyday people who tell their stories of living through the Civil War. Each book offers the many facts and observations considered too commonplace for the general histories of war. “This is the first time these books have been assembled in a set or published in such beautiful volumes,” says Edward J. Chytil Jr., President of Burnished Bronze Press. Each book features vintage-style bindings of genuine leather and linen cloth with elegant endpapers, gilt-edge pages, gold-tooled artwork on the spine and a faithful recreation of the original text. John H. Aughey’s Tupelo, first published in 1888, begins the series. A Presbyterian minister who lived in Mississippi, Aughey details his experiences as a Union sympathizer jailed as a traitor to the Southern cause. After being thrown into jail, he was nearly hung twice before escaping. Subsequent books take readers into the lives of a slave girl hidden in an attic crawlspace for seven years, an educated Southern lady, and to the camps and battlefields of individual soldiers and officers who fought on both sides. “We select important out-of-print Civil War diaries and memoirs to reproduce in collector edition volumes that mimic the finest books of their day,” says Chytil. “Each author’s landmark literary achievement captures the small details of daily life during the Civil War — told from both sides of the conflict and a variety of unique perspectives. These books give the modern reader a chance to learn what life was like for our ancestors who lived through the Civil War.” Highlights at a glance: Tupelo, by John H.
