April 9, 2011 - PRLog -- VOICES IN THE TREES

Voices in the Trees began as an acoustic duo with Seth Richardson on vocals and guitar and Gary Brown on bass.  Eager to expand to a full band, they recruited Mollie Harrison to play leads on viola, and she brought along Patrick Harrison to fill the vacant drummer position.  The band almost felt complete, but they could tell there was still something missing.  Patrick encouraged the band to incorporate Bradford Sims on electric guitar, bringing an alternative edge to their sound and allowing Seth greater freedom to focus on his soaring vocals and entrancing stage presence.  With the band now complete, they recorded a rough demo and kept themselves busy playing countless shows to refine their distinctive sound and build a dedicated fan-base.

In late 2009, Voices in the Trees entered the studio to record their first album, The Death of Viola, a long, agonized-over project that was finally released on November 5th, 2010 to incredibly positive response.  They are now working to expand beyond Birmingham to bring their infectious music to a wider audience and convert new listeners into devoted fans.  They are constantly writing new material and are planning to record again in the near future.

“A Girl Like You,” the lead single from The Death of Viola, is directed to those who throw their lives away on superficial friends and pleasures with no concern for the negative consequences that may result. The song is deceptively upbeat and extremely unique in its sound. Utilizing unusual arrangements to create a specific effect is clearly one of the group's many talents. The Vocals are unique and powerful and capture your attention right from the start.  “ ‘A Girl like You’ is very representative of the album’s ever present theme of poor choices and corrosive relationships that can slip from fun and uplifting to dark consequences, some of which also have a redeeming upturn by the end.”  Whether you approach it as a common thread of the album's theme or a great general sampling of the band’s unique sound and arrangements,  it's a quest I’m willing to take.  Voices in the Trees embody indie music to its very core. They are intriguing and captivating to listen to and I would recommend this refreshing music over anything on the airwaves to date.
