RTO12 Announces New General Manager

April 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Northern Ontario – Regional Tourism Organization 12 selected James D. Murphy as the General Manager who will lead the organization through its initial stages of development.  RTO12 is the new regional tourism organization encompassing Muskoka, Parry Sound, Algonquin Park and Almaguin Highlands.
Mr. Murphy has well-founded knowledge of the region through his position as General Manager with SAVOUR Muskoka, a position he has held since April 2008.  He joined SAVOUR Muskoka after completing a Master of Arts, Tourism Policy and Planning while at the same time being employed as a Job Developer administering Service Ontario employment programs in Waterloo, Ontario.  Over the course of his career Mr. Murphy has published research, delivered community workshops and provided leadership to a growing niche tourism market.
Interim Chair John Sorensen highlights, “James will be a great addition to our Team.  He has a strong academic background with the common sense to listen to his constituents.  His past performance has shown that he is a Regional Player and wants everyone to succeed.  We welcome him. ”
Reporting to the RTO12 Board of Directors the General Manager will be responsible for leadership to implement the RTO12 strategic directions and the development of the annual business operational plans that include initiatives and programs to grow visitation revenues and positively influence the growth of investment within the region.  These initiatives and programs include but are not limited to research and planning, marketing, product development, workforce development and investment attraction.
HR committee chair Brenda Scott comments, “We are pleased that James will lead the RTO12 team, bringing his enthusiasm and vision to building relationships in this new regional tourism organization with its unlimited potential.”
Mr. Murphy relocated to Bracebridge after spending time throughout Canada as a student and front line hospitality employee, and has lived here since 2008 with his wife Laura.  Mr. Murphy assumes the role of General Manager with RTO12 on April 4, 2011.
