| Photography Symposium to Convene in Eureka Springs in MayProfessional photographers to teach sessions as photographers of all levels learn and share inspiration.
By: Carrie Groves The group will meet at Inn of The Ozarks for workshops and instructive sessions taught by professional photographers from around the nation, including Northwest Arkansans Ed Cooley, Diana Hausam, Wendy Dunn, Greg Disch, Glen Wheeler, and Eureka Springs resident, Susan Storch. Organized by volunteers, MAPSym provides a weekend of education, fun and creative inspiration for photographers. Ideas for photography projects and practices for shutterbugs of all levels of skills will be offered. Several pre-symposium workshops are being offered, included a nature photography workshop, a session teaching the tips and tricks of Photoshop plug-in NIK, and four hours with author Bill Fortney, who is the keynote speaker at the dinner Saturday night. Each of these workshops costs $25, and participation in the regular MAPSym sessions is not required. MAPSym held a competition prior to the symposium, and winning images will be displayed at a gallery reception and social on Saturday. Dinner will follow, and then the photographers will hit the streets of Eureka Springs for a late-night model session. Cost for the evening is $30. Sunday is an embarrassment of riches, with 23 sessions led by top photographers from around the nation, and includes a chance to practice shooting professionally made-up and coiffed models from Faces, Inc. Early registration for the two days of Symposium is $150 and includes lunch and a snack break on Saturday and breakfast, lunch and two snack breaks on Sunday. Lodging is not included, but discounted rooms at Inn of the Ozarks are available for symposium attendees on space available basis. The weekend is a TFP (Trade For Prints) event; a $25 deposit is collected at the time of registration and returned when a CD containing a minimum of 25 JPG images from the event is submitted to the MAPSym.
