Members of the The Ilford Magical Society staged two shows featuring close-up magic and cabaret acts to raise £930 for the British Liver Trust. The trust's community fundraiser Joanne Barker has written to the society to thank everyone who helped towards the donation which she describes as 'fantastic'. She said: “We really do appreciate your support for people with liver disease and can't thank you enough for choosing to help our charity. By holding a fundraising event you have helped the trust by not only raising funds, but have also helped to increase awareness about liver disease.” Apart from helping national charities, the magicians support local charities which raise thousands of pounds each year by hosting magic shows in halls and community centres across Essex and East London. Society president Bryan Porter says: “These shows give our members an opportunity to perform to an audience and at the same time raise funds for good causes. With a magic show and a raffle, local groups generally raise several hundred pounds.” A typical show involves up to 10 magicians performing at guests’ tables and presenting a cabaret show with three or four acts. Although performers give their time freely, a small charge is made to cover public liability insurance and to help the society to continue providing professional support to charities and good causes. Further information about the society's charity work can be found at http://www.ilfordmagic.co.uk and a brochure for fundraisers can be downloaded at http://www.ilfordmagic.co.uk/ # # # About Ilford Magical Society: The society is a friendly group of professionals, amateurs and hobbyists who share a love of conjuring. Their aim is the same as most, if not all, of the numerous magic societies throughout the world … to foster and encourage friendship and the art of magic. End
