March 30, 2011 - PRLog -- The Virginia Kenshinkai studies and performs Japanese sword martial arts such as Nakamura Ryu Battodo, Toyama Ryu Iaido, and Mugai Ryu Iaihyodo. These Japanese Sword Art experts are performing at the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington DC on 9 April 2011 (12th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue) starting at 1:30 p.m. The Virginia Kenshinkai's Dojo is located at the Capital Area Budokai (www.capitalareabudokai.org), 25 S. Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA.

As a 501(c)(3), Virginia Kenshinkai provides student training and education, sponsored trips to international and national venues, and facilitates appreciation of Japanese culture and history. For 2012, the International Batto Do Federation (IBF), headquartered in Yokohama, Japan, has asked the Virginia Kenshinkai to host an International Batto Do Tai Kai next spring. The Kenshinkai is a branch Dojo within the IBF and will be hosting Judges and Senior Sensei from Japan. Invitations are also being extended to international branches (Britain, Serbia, Indonesia, and Australia) and various Japanese Sword Art Dojos throughout the United States (Florida, NY, California, plus others) are committed to attend and support Tai Kia. These promise to be exceptional events.

Each year these professional Japanese Swordsmen, led by Sensei Dave Drawdy, perform in the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival (www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org) and Big Block Party Cherry Blossom Festival (www.nationalcherryblossomfestival.org/2011/01/20/silver-springs-big-cherry-block-party) in Silver Spring Maryland.

Come, observe and Stand With Japan (www.sakuramatsuri.org). Special consideration is due in the culture and community of Japan in the wake of an unprecedented earthquake and tsunami - income from ticket sales is being used for recovery efforts. Some vendors are donating all or part of the profit from their sales. Volunteers are conducting fund-raising on the streets for the American Red Cross Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Fund. The Bezos Family Foundation will donate $2 for every paper crane that is made at the Children’s Corner.

This year's Japanese Sword Art line-up is as follows:

-   Capital Area Budokai (introduction) 1:30
-   Tendokan Naginata 1:30:-2:00
-   Capital Area Budokai Kendo 2:00-2:30 (then move to J-Pop stage)
-   Capital Area Jodokai 2:30-3:00
-   Virginia Kenshinkai - Batto 3:00:-3:30
-   Capital Area Budokai (mixed arts) 3:30-4:00

Come and join these nationally and internationally recognized Japanese Sword Art experts and enjoy the National Cherry Blossom Festival of 2011 on 9 April 2011 at 12th Street and Independence Avenue.

Looking forward to meet and greet 9 April 2011.
