By: Kitty Kurth March 23, 2011 Che Rhymefest Smith to Cochran: Please Listen to the Residents, Fix this Now Standing in front of a an abandoned building at 5706 S. Union, Che “Rhymefest” Weeks ago, someone stripped the copper pipes out of the lower floor of the building and left the water gushing into the flooded basement with exposed wiring and a front door standing wide open. Area residents have called Alderman Cochran and 311 repeatedly and nothing has been done. Smith said, “Alderman Cochran. Take care of this. Turn off the water. Secure the building. Make the area safe before someone gets hurt. This is a tragedy waiting to happen.” Smith went on to note, “The running water is literally pouring money down the drain at a time when the city coffers need every penny. Thousands of gallons of water that taxpayers pay to treat are gushing out of the pipes and in to the basement. Water is a precious resource, this is a dangerous situation, the Alderman needs to act.” Watch the video here: http://www.youtube.com/ End
