Family enjoy diamond celebrationsA Salisbury hotel has played host to a sparkling celebration – for a second time.
Victor and Mary Jones of West Grimstead chose to stage their 60th wedding anniversary at the Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel on Harnham Road – ten years after celebrating their 50th anniversary at the same venue. The couple met in Manchester, while Mary was serving with the land army and Victor was in the navy, before marrying in their home village if Winterslow on March 10, 1951. And having celebrated their golden anniversary at the four-star hotel, they returned to commemorate their diamond year with those closest to them – and the evening was a great success. “We are really pleased to have reached this milestone and I think being together for 60 years really is an achievement worth celebrating,” “I was 22 when we married in Winterslow and after serving in the navy, Mary and I moved to Farnborough to work for the Ministry of Defence. “For our 50th anniversary we thought it would be nice to have a big celebration and we invited 50 people. “This time we felt it was for the best to spend the date with our three sons and their families – the direct result of mine and Mary’s union. “We have three sons, two of whom are married and have given us three grandchildren, so there were ten of us there this time. “Not only was it a lovely way to celebrate, by going back to the same place, but it is a lovely setting over-looking the river and cathedral and we knew exactly what we were going to get in the way of service. “It was a fantastic night and who knows, we could be back here in another ten years.” Peter Roche, general manager at the Legacy Rose and Crown Hotel, was delighted to be involved in such a special event.
