March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- Lincolnshire, UK: “When choosing a freephone number, it is important to get well informed on the basics of what they actually are, what they offer and how this will benefit your business. This way you will know that your investment will give you the best return”, says David Clarke, Director of DBS Telecoms and an expert in 0800, 0844, 0845 and local virtual numbers. He has therefore provided answers to a list of frequently asked questions about 0800 freephone numbers which aims to provide you with the essential information you will need to know to evaluate if this service is the one for you.

Will a UK 0800 number increase the number of enquiries I receive?

Most definitely. It is free for the caller to call you, so what better incentive can you offer for them to call and enquire about the service or products you provide? Especially at a time of economic uncertainty, every penny matters to businesses and individuals alike. Companies can often invest thousands in a marketing campaign, only for their ads to be seen but rejected at a late stage because their competitors have a freephone number. The same principle applies with freepost addresses – you are far more likely to bother to make contact with someone if you don’t have to pay for the privilege of doing so.

How much do 0800 numbers cost?

It depends on the company you choose. Be careful not to get ripped off. The best advice would be to compare the market and see what the average costs are which will indicate whether you are considering a bargain or a scam. DBS charges £5 plus VAT as a one off set up fee, and then £5 plus VAT monthly rental charge, plus 4p per minute for receiving calls at any time. We also use per second billing so that your calls are not rounded up to the nearest minute.

How do UK 0800 phone numbers work?

The 0800 number you choose will be pointed towards either a landline number or a mobile. You can change this at anytime, but beware that some number seller companies do charge to have your phone number re-pointed (ported) towards another number. DBS do not charge to change where your 0800 number is pointed.

Can I divert my 0800 free phone number on busy or no answer?

Yes you can. Any diverts set up on the number you point your 0800 number towards will automatically apply to your free phone number as well. For example, if you were to divert calls to your mobile when you are out of the office then any inbound calls to your landline made on your 0800 number will follow the divert to your mobile phone.

Can my 0800 number be called from anywhere in the UK?

Yes, your 0800 number can be called form anywhere in the UK. It is a non geographic number, so callers feel they are calling a company with a national presence rather than a local one.

How soon will the number be connected?

Your number will be connected depending on the company you choose. DBS connect within one working hour between 9am and 5pm Monday-Friday, which is a good service, but do your research beforehand and compare.
