March 16, 2011 - PRLog -- Fred Meyer Jewelers is celebrating the grand opening of their new store inside the King Soopers Marketplace store at 6922 10th Street in Greeley.  The jewelry retailer, known for its legendary service, quality and competitive prices on engagement and wedding rings, fine jewelry for women and men, and brand-name watches, opened the 1,338-square-foot store in February.

Gregory E. Sherman, nationally acclaimed jewelry appraiser and one of the most highly qualified gemologists in the United States, will host “What It’s Worth” on Saturday, March 19 from 10 am to 6 pm at the new Fred Meyer Jewelers.  This event is part mystery, part history lesson, and part treasure hunt.  “We’ve all heard the stories of someone discovering an item of great value that they unknowingly had for years.  Who hasn’t secretly wondered if that could be you”? said Dan Farland, director of special times for Fred Meyer Jewelers.  “This is the perfect time to dust off that unusual item from the bottom of your jewelry box to see what it’s really worth.  Who knows – you might be holding a secret treasure,” he continued.

With gemological credentials earned in New York, London, and the University of Nantes in France, Gregory E. Sherman is one of the most highly qualified gemologists and jewelry appraisers in the United States.  He is a 23-year jewelry industry professional with extensive experience in retail management, consulting, gemological research, jewelry appraising, teaching, and training.  He has discussed jewelry topics on the radio and appeared on the History Channel’s Diamond Mines and on Shop NBC as a gemstone expert. He is coauthor of the booklet Changing the Color of Diamonds, the High Pressure High Temperature Process Explained, and has written numerous articles for the jewelry trade.  Sherman has taught gemology at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan and at the California Institute of Jewelry Training, and is an authorized instructor for the Gemological Association of Great Britain. A highlight of Sherman’s career was appraising a 108 carat D color Flawless diamond worth over 25 million dollars.

Limit one jewelry item per person on a first come first serve basis.  The “What It’s Worth” service is not a full and complete appraisal, but a verbal approximation of value.  Full and complete appraisals, which start at $75, can be scheduled during the event for a later date.  The event is open to the public.
