Price steady after superb start

March 14, 2011 - PRLog -- Nick Price followed his stunning 60 on the first day with a 3-under 68 to take a two-shot lead in the Toshiba Classic.





Playing at Newport Beach Country Club, the 54-year-old Price carded four bogeys and a bogey, hot on the heels of matching the Champions Tour record with a career-best 11-under-par 60 the day before.

"I think after a good round you tend to play a little cautiously," Price said. "I felt like I played two shots better than I did."



Mark Wiebe is alone in second place after a second straight 65.



"Nick is a great player and I'm going to have to do some Callaway FT Iron Set = http://www.enjoymygolf.com/goods-262-Callaway+FT+Iron+Set+.html ," said Wiebe, a two-time Champions tour winner. "We'll have to see what I have in my bag of tricks."



Japanese star Joe Ozaki (64) and Mark O'Meara (67) were 10 under, and defending champion Fred Couples (67) was 9 under along with Michael Allen (64) and Tom Pernice Jr. (65).



Price, who led by five going in to the second round, finally dropped his first shot of the tournament on the par-4 11th. He had an oppportunity to get it back immediately on the next hole, but missed a short birdie putt.

Ozaki, who during the first round hadn't heard from his wife in Tokyo, received a call from her on Friday night assuring im that she was alright. Much more relaxed in his second round, he made seven birdies, four from putts more than 20 foot in length.
