March 15, 2011 - PRLog -- Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing goes a bit further than the U.S. Department of Agriculture's push for less sugar and more organic foods and whole grains.  The push has caused an avalanche of debates among U.S. school officials and food providers.  But Beverly Oliver claims, through her narrative and anecdotes from healer Dr. Sebi, today's focus on organic and whole grain food is somewhat misplaced in the whole scheme of healthy eating.

"Healthy human blood is alkaline, yet we eat more acid and starch-based food. Our focus and policies must shift to alkaline food," says Oliver, whose own palate changed after she followed Dr.Sebi's advice on alkaline nutrition.  Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing represents her campaign to place foods she cooks in her kitchen in restaurants and grocery stores throughout the United States.

"Our taste buds are tuned to sugar, right?  Why not use maple sugar and maple syrup as sweeteners?" Oliver continues.  The book contains alkaline-based recipes and an alkaline food guide and, according to Oliver, has a theme of "creative weaning, creative substitution," a method to gradually shift from acid foods to more organic alkaline food such as maple products.  Also, Dr. Sebi''s account of how alkaline food factors into his treatment of diabetics and AIDS patients is included in the 207-page paperback.

Oliver gives broad views of acid/alkaline food arenas and even puts her beloved soul food and southern cooking under a culinary microscope and asks: Organic? Nonorganic? But is it acid or alkaline?  She weaves into her memoir-a story of asthma and healing-an invitation to everyone in search of ways to keep obesity and chronic diseases at bay to learn posthaste the meaning of acid and alkaline food.

Released in 2011, Sojourn to Honduras Sojourn to Healing is available from several book distributors, including new independent publisher JBDavid Communications at www.sojourntohonduras.com.
