March 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Internet is a powerful vehicle for mankind to express thought, exchange ideas, and show off freely.  On Internet, there is no discrimination of race, religion, gender, social class, and age.  It is a new realm for everyone to take his own adventure.  On the other hand, in this virtual space there is no bondage of law, tradition, custom, shariah…etc.  Everyone can create new idea, thought for his own sake.

Another feature on Internet is anonymity.  At this moment only a few people will use their true name to express every bit of thought on Internet.  People like to do that because there is still close link between this virtual space and real world.  In order not to offend law, custom, or shariah, it is quite common to express one’s opinion without real name.

Why is Internet so influence? With more and more high technology introduced into our society, Internet is taking the place of newspaper in our life and become as important as television, telephone every day.  “In that world, if you could use tech tricks to maintain anonymity, you could mobilize more freely than in public, where you were likely to be watched by police. You could set up decoy events and change them on a moment's notice, you could spread your message to other countries, you could believe that another type of Egypt was possible.” said John D. Sutter, CNN Journalist in his article “The faces of Egypt's 'Revolution 2.0“.

A government with responsibility on social progress and national solidarity should keep certain level of surveillance on Internet activities, just as we put lot of CCTV in public places to monitor any abnormal event.  With such facility implemented on Internet, government should collect more comments, opinions from different sides for reference and improvement.  By this way, it will be more effective and direct than parliament, congress to know true vox populi.

To monitor Internet activity is a quite difficult task, because there are many different services with unique protocols on Internet.  By advance deep packet capture technology, there are some vendors in the market providing such system, such as E-Detective from Decision Group.  This product with the best system performance can intercept more than 150+ protocols, such as facebook, twitter, MSN, ICQ, GMail, Web content, VoIP…etc.

In some countries, governments do collect lot of intelligence from Internet by implementing E-Detective in ISP sites or National Network Gateway Center. On the other hand, government also use such system to track the message routing and make link analysis on different opinion groups in order to understand whether there is any foreign espionages involved.

Internet is the last frontier for everyone to take adventure.  For those outlaws without responsibility, it is the best arena to destroy our society and civilization in order to fulfill their ambitious anti-social dream.  Everyone in charge of national security should pay full attention of it.
