Southern Star Craft Beers Featured at Reserve 101 Complimentary Tasting March 1

Feb. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Reserve 101 is serving up craft beers from Southern Star Brewery of Conroe, Texas, at the downtown Houston whiskey bar’s Tuesday Tasting on March 1 at 6 p.m.  Reserve 101 is located at the corner of Caroline and Dallas, across from House of Blues.

Southern Star began brewing its handcrafted canned beers in March 2008, with the introduction of Pine Belt Pale Ale.  Its product line has since expanded to include Bombshell Blonde and Buried Hatchet Stout.  All three brews will be on Reserve 101’s tasting menu.

Southern Star hosts an annual home brew competition in which the winning entry is scaled up for production and sale by the brewery.  The 2010 winner was a Smoked Porter. The next contest is scheduled for April this year.  The brewery offers free tours Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“This is our chance to showcase an excellent local product,” said Reserve 101 co-owner Mike Raymond.  “Our Tuesday Tasters are going to love it.  Southern Star is a regular offering at Reserve 101.”

The bar stocks 170 different whiskeys, many of them limited-run brands, along with beer, wine and other liquors.  The bar serves Signature Cocktails and its own infusions, made with such exotic ingredients as pecans and cinnamon, peaches, apples, peppers and even tobacco.

“Happy Hour,” with dollar-off beers and wines and half-price Signature Cocktails, runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, with specials just about every day of the week, including Sundays.
