Samsung - Most Valued Performance Award

Boxer Vijender Singh wins the “Most Valued Performance Award” for his stellar performance at the Asian Games 2010.

Feb. 28, 2011 - PRLog -- Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd. today felicitated the medal winners of the recently concluded Guangzhou Asian Games 2010. The Company also declared Boxer Vijender Singh Beniwal as the Winner of the “Samsung Most Valued Performance Award” (MVP) at the ceremony.

The MVP award which carries a reward of Rs. 2.5 lakh worth of Samsung products was decided by a panel of distinguished and eminent sports journalists. Mr J S Shin, President & CEO, Samsung South West Asia also handed over Samsung Galaxy tab, the latest convergence device from Samsung, to Vijender Singh Beniwal. The jury while selecting Vijender for this prestigious award, acknowledged his consistent contribution in raising the stature of Indian boxing and his superlative achievement in beating the reigning World Champion to win the Gold medal at the 2010 Asian Games.

Samsung India also felicitated the Asian Games medal winners from different sports disciplines both for their Individual and Team performance by presenting them with Samsung products from the Consumer Electronics and Mobile portfolio. All the Individual Gold medal winners were conferred with a 40” Samsung LCD TV, while the Silver medal winners received a 32” Samsung LCD TV. The Bronze Award winners were presented with a 22” Samsung LCD TV by the Company. The winning Teams in Gold, Silver and Bronze category were presented with Samsung Mobiles.

Announcing the awards and the MVP award winner, Mr.J S Shin, President and CEO, Samsung South –West Asia stated, “The felicitation ceremony today, marks the completion of a journey that began earlier this year with the launch of “Samsung Sports Ratna program” - our sports scholarship initiative to support the players for the 2010 Asian Games. It is a matter of great pride for all of us to honour the winners and heartening to hand over the MVP award to one our Samsung Sports Ratnas.

This year, the Indian team has put up a very strong performance at the Asian Games and done the country proud. Samsung India’s association with the Indian Olympic Association commenced with the 1998 Bangkok Asian Games and ever since the company has supported the Indian Contingent to the Y2000 Sydney Olympic Games, Y2002 Busan Asian Games, the Y2004 Athens Olympics, 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2010 Youth Olympic Games at Singapore and the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games. Samsung Electronics, the parent company, was the “Prestige Partner” to the 16th Asian Games held at Guangzhou, China.

The Samsung Sports Ratna program is designed to provide scholarship support to 10 top Indian athletes towards their preparation for the Guangzhou Asian Games. This program is in line with the Samsung ‘Olympic Ratna Program’ carried out by the Company for the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, wherein the Company had supported top ranking athletes across individual sports disciplines with their training expenses while preparing for the games. Samsung India was also the ‘Official Partner’ of the Indian Contingent to the first ever Youth Olympic Games, held in Singapore in August 2010.
