By: jessica "Make me more flexible, gives me more energy and gives me more balance, and yes, they really work," said O'Neal. The bracelets have only been around since 2007, but they already have an impressive list of endorsements, from worldwide soccer star David Beckham to the Big Shamrock, who's been wearing one for the last four years. "I do know a few people who wear them, and they swear by them. They are runners," said Dr. Moira Davenport, of Allegheny General Hospital. Davenport, a doctor of emergency and sports medicine, is a runner herself. She told WTAE Channel 4 Action News anchor Sally Wiggin that she does not wear a Power band, although some of her friends do. "They just feel it reminds them to calm down and breathe deeply and to use it as a focus point," Davenport said. Power Balance -- the company that manufactures the bracelets -- said the wristbands work with the body's "natural energy field," a concept based on Eastern medicine. Holograms in them are said to maximize energy flow, improving the wearer's balance and strength. Fans of alternative medicine insist that energy fields are real and measurable -- but holograms? That's when doctors and coaches start raising questions. "That is where the problem comes in," Davenport said, "because the studies on the bands haven't shown that they work, so it is more of a placebo effect. So, if I have a band on like your favorite player does, if it works for him or her, it is going to help you." In December, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission ruled that "suppliers of these types of products must ensure that they are not claiming supposed benefits when there is no supportive scientific evidence." Power Balance printed this retraction: "We admit that there is no scientific evidence that supports our claims." Davenport said the only two studies that have been done on the bracelets so far were scientifically flawed, and with more bands on the market making different claims, there are more reputable studies in the works. "A lot of times, science is ahead of pop culture. But a lot of times, pop culture is ahead of science," Davenport said. "When things become popular, people in the exercise science community say we probably should look at this more." read more:http://www.summerfashionshop.com/ # # # You can find the right power balance wristband and brand shoes in a cheap price, the shipping is free for you and you can save more if you order more End
