Feb. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- This March’s quarterly newsletter from The Hospice of the Good Shepherd is to be sponsored by the Grosvenor Chapter of Business Networking International - a business networking group based in Chester.

The Hospice, located between Chester and Ellesmere Port, offers highly-specialised care for those living with advanced stages of disease across Chester, Deeside, Ellesmere Port and Rural Cheshire. Its services are all provided free of charge to both patients and their families, and its running costs are almost totally reliant on contributions from the general public. And with these costs currently around £6300 per day, the Hospice is grateful for all acts of generosity like the one shown by the Grosvenor BNI chapter.

“It’s brilliant that a locally based business-group has decided to lend its support in such a big way,” said Hospice Fundraiser Helen Higginson, “By sponsoring the newsletter, the Chapter have helped us take big strides towards our fundraising targets for the year ahead.”

And sponsorship of the newsletter, which is currently distributed to 17,000 homes, isn’t the only way in which the chapter members have helped raise funds for the hospice. Last year, some intrepid members of the group braved the cold waters of North Wales to participate in white-water rafting on Lake Bala, and they recently supported a ten-pin bowling night organised by the hospice, where, fittingly, the chapter won the trophy for the highest overall team score on the night. Other members of the group have also strutted their stuff at a salsa night for the hospice, and individual members have organised their own events, like a night of magical-music, or simply made generous donations.

As Chapter Director Mike Shakespeare explained “ Helping the Hospice is very important to us here at BNI. We feel very strongly about giving something back to the local community and if we can all show our support by clubbing together to sponsor the newsletter, then we’re more than happy to do it.”

As well as fundraising events and cash donations, the Hospice also has two shops, which accept unwanted goods from members of the public. Items can be picked up by the Hospice van or be taken directly to the premises. And there’s also a monthly lottery where, for a small monthly fee, participants have the chance to win cash prizes

“The generosity of the chapter members over the past year has been fantastic,” added Helen from her office in Backford. “As we rely almost completely on donations and a small subsidy from the Government, it’s really important we can get support from local businesses, as well as from individuals. As a fundraiser, I’m always thinking of innovative, fun ways to raise money for the Hospice. And I can always rely on the Grosvenor BNI chapter to support me in everything I do.”
